Aside from becoming an official sponsor of the British University Esports Championships, Barclay’s and NSE’s (National Student Esports) have formed a partnership in the upcoming academic year to spearhead various initiatives aimed at student esports fans which will launch at dates still to be announced.
The collaboration comes in the wake of the Barclays Gaming Technology Frenzy event in January 2020 in which Barclays and the NSE together arranged a series of Barclays HQ student show matches in Canary Wharf. The announcement marks the second manifestation of Barclays’ commitment to the success of the UK esporting sector following its prominent involvement in the forthcoming Dreamhack’s UKLC Summer 2020 tournament, and paves the way for future promising joint ventures.
Jonathan Tilbury, NSE’s Managing Director stated: “From day one, we’ve been struck by how passionate the team at Barclays are about esports. We’re incredibly excited to continue working with a brand so committed to positively shaping the future of the student esports space”.
Ben Davey, CEO of Barclays Ventures added, “We are delighted to be partnering with NSE. We see the important role they play in building UK grassroots esports. Not only does NSE bring students from around the country together online, to play the games they love competitively, they also champion programs like FutureGen, to create opportunities to help individuals and communities develop and grow”.
