Mineski Global, together with Moonton Games, finished off the fifth season of South East Asia’s Mobile Legends Pro League – Philippines having achieved the highest viewership in the history of the league.

The grand final and play-off matches of the fifth season aired on 31 May 2020 and attracted the largest number of viewers in the history of MPL Philippines, and in fact more than any other Philippine esports event before it, topping out at 317,330 spectators for the OnicPH-SUNSPARK final match.

This achievement by the Phillipines faction of the MPL is a promising indicator of role of esports in society following the paradigm shift brought about by Covid-19.

Mineski Sports managed to generate a similar amount of interest in the MPL Indonesia. They managed to top an already massive 702 689 peak online viewers for their ‘El Clasico’ match in the playoffs between RRQ and Evos by shooting out the lights with just over a million peak spectators in the grand finale which ended with a triumphant RRQ walking away with the Indonesian Championship.

Mineski Global CEO and founder, Ronald Robins said: “I’m very proud of our Mineski Esports Philippines and Indonesia teams for pulling off five seasons of the MPL with flying colors, all while setting records in terms of viewership for esports tournaments in Southeast Asia.”

Since the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang professional league was founded in 2018, Mineski Global’s Esports branch and Moonton Games have been close collaborators. The league continues to produce some of the region’s highest rated mobile MOBA players.

Lucas Mao, Moonton Games’ director for esports shared: “In the recently-concluded fifth season of the MPL, MPL Indonesia and Philippines have achieved positive growth and breakthroughs in performance. We feel very grateful to the Mineski Esports team for their hard work and will continue to partner with them and contribute to the development of the esports industry in Southeast Asia. We will make efforts to bring greater experiences to our players and fans.”

Sunsparks became the first-ever back-to-back titlist in the Philippine edition of the MPL. The team composed of, Allen Jedric “Greed_” Baloy, Kiel VJ Hernandez “Kielvj” Cruzem, Ashley Marco “Killuash” Cruz, Christian Provido “Rafflesia” Fajura, Jaypee Gonzales “Jaypee” Dela Cruz, Renz Errol “Renzio” Salonga Cadua, Rizzi Joy Pardiñas (manager), and Michael Angelo Bocado (coach) won a total of P1,258,000.

The sixth season of the MPL kicks off in July this year.
